Developing An Internet Presence Part 2
Developing An Internet Presence Part 1
We have now purchased our Domain Name and you are already hearing “geeky” words like nameservers. As we mentioned in the last article the nameservers is the address your Domain Name gets posted too. You will require at least two nameservers and they will look something like this:
ns2316.dizinc.com ns2317.dizinc.com
What they are called is not really important it is simply a unique address to which the Domain Name you have purchased gets sent to. Some hosts require more than two nameservers but in general two are more than adequate.
Bear in mind at this stage you have only purchased the Domain Name so your outlay is minimal and adding nameservers carries no cost. We are now in the position where we need to point these at some reliable hosting.
What Is Hosting?
Hosting is the place where your Domain Name gets pointed at, the place where what you choose to upload will be displayed. This gets a bit deeper and will be covered later.
Where Do I get Hosting?
You could purchase hosting from the supplier of your Domain Name but this carries a cost, usually about £30.00 a year. If you do this, and times get hard, then you will be looking at a much larger bill and if you cant afford to pay it there is a danger of loosing the hosting along with the domain name.
As a DJ http://www.mobiledjonline.org.uk/ offers FREE hosting for members with 25 posts or more so why do you need to pay? It comes with no advertising, an email address at your Domain Name plus access to a database (another geeky word, but we will cover that later).
What’s The Catch?
There is no catch; server space is so cheap offering this type of service is almost at zero cost and we are happy to pass this benefit on to our membership.
What Is Next?
We now have two of the four most important things: A Domain Name A Web Hosting (The place where we store our website) |
