Getting all this down in plain English is quite difficult and over time some of these articles may require a tweak but the truth is what you are trying to do is quite complex.
The FTP (File Transfer Protocol covered in issue 3) is the one I perceive that will cause the most problems but there is plenty of support and read me files available on the internet to help you with this.
Â
Do I Actually Need FTP?
Possibly not, there are many applications out there that will let novices put together a website using your Internet browser as the interface, the means in which to construct your site. They will have template sites and FAQ sections (Frequently Asked Questions) making the task relatively simple.
There are risks with this. Inherently template sites do take a long time to propagate and as the suppliers offer a generic service it is highly likely you will stumble upon your chosen template elsewhere.
Â
What Other Options Are There?
There are a few. You can get a Web Designer to write your site, you could attempt to write it yourself or you could use a Content Management System. We have a few long words creeping in here and I will clarify what they mean.
Â
A Web Designer
Employing a Web Designer will ensure you will get delivered a professional looking product but don’t always be fooled by great looking websites in their portfolio. The fact is you want people to type in a phrase local to your region that will eventually find your website. The manner in which this is achieved is called SEO (Search Engine Optimisation) and is a topic to be covered in another article.
Many Web Designers will show you a finished product that looks stunning and with a little insider knowledge you will be able to assess whether this stunning website will actually work for you. We will cover this in depth in another article as this is very important.
Â
A Content Management System
This is a system that potentially requires professional help to install but once installed anyone with a grasp of Microsoft Word will be able to maintain there own website. http://www.mobiledjonnline.org.uk offers FREE hosting and FREE installation of a content management system along with support via the forum.
Â
Writing Your Own Website From Scratch
This is a big subject and requires an article on its own. The fundamentals are quite easy to add a page to your Internet space. It’s the complexity you wish to add to your website that requires a little skill or mentoring.

Have we actually Achieved Anything With This Article?
DJs are generally technically minded so hopefully you have kept up with what has been laid down so far.
We have our Domain Name, we have our hosting, and we now have options of how we physically put together our website.
