Making My Site Work For Me!
Â
Moving on with SEO you need to do a little investigation regarding your target market. Don’t be frightened of spending a few hours on a busy high street with a clipboard and approaching individuals with some well balanced questions about how they use search engines. Keep the questions concise and on topic as people generally have a limited attention span with high street market research.
If you use this tactic don’t be fooled by age but experience will enable you to be more selective of whom you approach to gather information. Also consider the proximately to trade related shops when carrying out surveys as the likelihood of somebody entering these premises is a potential client. As a DJ you may consider carrying out these surveys close to retailers such as formal clothes hire or a florist.
Â
Why Do I Need To Do This?
Â
It is very easy to become blinkered in your approach to gathering “Search Terms/Keywords” therefore an un-blinkered approach often reveals new avenues for you to explore and exponentially will increasing your target market.
Most businesses are now Internet driven and resolving the “Search Terms” in which the end user found the company will assist you in the initial development of your own web presence.
How Fast Can I get My Site On Page 1 With The Major Search Engines?
This is a very arbitrary statement and I will guarantee that you will have had some random company phone you up boasting they have the ability to do this. Most of their claims will be based around Google Ad words or something similar and will inevitably cost you money.
If you do receive phone calls of this nature ask them to type in a specific search term related to their business and see how they rank! The likelihood they won’t as it this is a very competitive market and ranking within that search term would be very difficult.
Â
Patience Is A Virtue!
Â
Many individuals have misconceptions of how website propagation works and the truth is a little patience goes a long way. Many DJs consider “Pretty” to be more important over functionality but the good news is there is a happy medium.
A prime example is www.olympicdisco.co.uk which has had almost zero work. This was purchased a few years ago with the view to developing it and there is virtually no SEO but time has propagated the site under the search term “2012 disco”.
Its not worth developing now but having the foresight to purchase domain names which carry a degree of relevance to your trade is a step in the right direction and sitting on them for a while with the correct SEO will help them propagate but we will cover this in the next blog.
