The Website Front End Structure Is Now Done!
Your pages should now be cross referenced to each other where relevant keywords deserve a link to show additional content covering related subjects. Your menu structure should be titled correctly to add weight to your trade and any images should be a sensible file size allowing the pages to load quickly along with their “ALT Tags”.
Now For The Hidden Stuff!
A website page obviously needs to looks presentable to the end user whilst being spider friendly and if you have followed our SEO tutorials from the outset you will have an efficient foundation on which to build.
Design is a different kettle of fish and we will cover that in another tutorial as our concerns here are making the website work for us because looking good is of no use if it is not ranking with any search engines. After all these tutorials are about SEO rather than eye candy but a balance obviously need to be achieved eventually.
Page Titles
Page titles are a very important part of SEO and a relevant part of optimisation as it is one of the first things a spider will hit when crawling your site however this is a bit of a bone of contention amongst assorted search engines.
W3C recommends a maximum of 64 characters for page titles.
The fact is if you write a page title within 60 characters and make sure the content is relevant to the page, you are in the zone. In our experience additional characters still add weight to the page after 60 characters but we recommend you don’t over do it.
Stop Characters
Stop characters are a big no (&, =, ? to name but a few) and a quick Google search will help you understand this. In short it will not have an adverse issue with the end user but it will cause problems when a spider crawls your site as it hits a roadblock which defeats our SEO goal. |
